(1) Motivation: The objective of the course is to enable the students to recognize which forces are important in particular systems, as well as how to control these forces. (2) Contents: This course focuses on the role of various intermolecular and interparticle forces in determining the properties of simple systems such as gases, liquids and solids, with a special focus on more complex colloidal, polymeric and biological systems. The course provides a thorough foundation in theories and concepts of intermolecular forces, including 1) thermodynamic and statistical aspects of intermolecular forces, 2) strong intermolecular forces: covalent and coulomb interactions, 3) interactions involving polar molecules, 4) interactions involving the polarization of molecules, 5) van der waals forces, 6) repulsive steric forces, total intermolecular pair potentials, and liquid structure, 7) special interactions: hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic and hydrophilic interactions, 8) various techniques that can measure the intermolecular forces. (3) Summary: This one-semester course is intended for final-year undergraduate students and graduate students. The primary aim of the course is to provide a thorough grounding in the theories and concepts of intermolecular forces so that the students will be able to appreciate which forces are important in whatever system he or she is dealing with and to apply these theories correctly to specific problems.

先讲一下课程基本情况,博士课,前半部分老师讲,每两周一次课堂作业,其实就是点到,无课后作业。后半部分老师会给论文让全班轮流做pre,结课作业是写一篇和分子间相互作用力相关的论文。
理工科的学生一般会分成三类人,做理论的,做实验的,做工程的。一门课程很难同时满足三类人的需求。因此,如果一门课让三类人中的一类绷不住,那挺正常的。让两类绷不住,可能是要么课程内容太专精了,要么是课程有点逆天。但是如果一门课让三类人都绷不住,那我只能评价其为前无古人,后无来者的逆天。很不幸的是这门课是最后一种。
讲点实际的,从做理论的角度,量子力学的诞生让我们能从第一行原理上研究所谓的分子间相互作用力,也就是库伦、交换和关联。但是他的模型模型只停留在典型的库伦相互作用。从做实验的角度来讲,他讲的模型太过粗糙,以至于只能做一些马后炮式的定性的解释,对实验没有任何的辅助作用,完全用不到。从做工程的角度来讲,他的模型又带有“第一性”的缺点,参数太少,无法真正唯象,没有用武之处。
还有就是都博士阶段了,老师依旧没有摆请自己课程的位置,这一点,分析化学前沿就做的很好。水学分嘛,不寒掺。
所以能选其他博士课别选这个。
